In France, Parkinson's disease affects more than 200,000 people with thousands of new cases each year. And what we don't know is that the fight of patients is not always what we think.
The view of others: double punishment for the sick
Even if we have not yet cured the disease, which most often manifests itself by muscle stiffness, slowness of movements and tremors, medical treatment has made progress and now makes it possible to alleviate certain symptoms. On the other hand, the suffering caused by the gaze of others, marked by stigma and incomprehension, does not change. A double punishment for the sick. Because the kindness we show them has a major impact on their ability to live with the illness. But the fight against prejudices also involves the evolution of care which must give greater importance to personalized medicine. Most justified for this complex disease and the diversity of symptoms depending on the patient.
Events in France to inform patients and loved ones
As part of World Day, events are organized throughout France until May 18. Objective: to share, inform, overcome preconceived ideas and transmit hope and courage to patients and their loved ones in particular.
